About ALP & Technician
Assistant Loco Pilots (ALP) drive and operate Indian Railways locomotives alongside Loco Pilots. Technicians maintain signaling, electrical, mechanical, and track infrastructure.
Technician Grade I (Signal): Pay Level 5.
Technician Grade III: Pay Level 2.
Gross Salary: Approx. ₹30,000 – ₹45,000 / month.
Educational Qualifications
ITI Certificate: ITI in relevant trade from NCVT/SCVT recognized institute.
Diploma: 3-Year Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, or Automobile Engineering.
Degree: B.E. / B.Tech in specified engineering disciplines.
ALP Selection Process & Exam Pattern
CBT-1 → CBT-2 (Part A + Part B) → CBAT → Document Verification & Medical Exam (A-1 Vision)

Part A (100 Questions | 90 Mins): Maths, Reasoning, Basic Science & Engineering, Current Affairs. Marks scored in Part A determine shortlisting.
Part B Trade Test (75 Questions | 60 Mins): Relevant Trade Test. Mandatory qualifying nature (35% pass mark required for all categories).
Medical Standard A-1: ALP candidates must possess perfect vision without glasses (6/6) and normal color vision.
